How To Create MP3 Lists Using Oidua And Guidua

MP3 list made using Oidua
A lot of people have been contacting me recently to ask about the software I use to create my MP3 List. I actually wrote about the tools I use to make the MP3 list on a previous version of my blog, but since there is some interest in it I’ll do it again.

The tool I use to create my MP3 List is a command line utility called Oidua. Oidua produces MP3 lists that now only has a directory structure but will also say how many files are in an album directory, what is the size of that directory, the total length, and information on the bit-rate the files are ripped at. It comes in two forms, a Windows binary version and also a Python version, so every one should be able to run it on their machine. The basic usage of Oidua is simple:

Usage: oidua.exe [options]

You just run the executable and tell it where the MP3’s are located. Couldn’t be any easier…if you don’t want to change any of the default options that is. If you do want something different from what is default you are going to have to use some command line switches, and Oidua has 17 of them, many with their own sub-switches. For computer savvy people you can get the exact results you want on the command line using the options, but for people who aren’t very familiar with the command line and couldn’t be bothered looking through all the options there’s a simple way of running Oidua, you can use the graphical front end called Guidua.
Guidua Application Main ScreenGuidua is a Windows only graphical front end written for Oidua. With Guidua anyone can quickly and easily create the perfect MP3 list and not have to get into nitty gritty of the command line options.
The Guidua Setup Screen
As you can see all of the options that can be set for Oidua on the command line can also be set painlessly through Guidua. In the Guidua configuration screen you simply tell Guidua where your Oidua executable resides, which MP3 directories you would like Guidua to use, and which options you want.

Go Further With Oidua:
I like to harness Oidua’s power a little bit further by using Scheduled Tasks in Windows to automatically create MP3 lists for me. All you need to do is take your command line Oidua command, and if you prefer to use Guidua you will see that it gives you the Oidua command line command when you create the list. Take that command and put it into a text file and save it, but rename the extension to .bat. Now you have a script that will create a MP3 list for you. At this point you can go into Scheduled Tasks and create a new task that will run the script at a specified time, my lists are created every Monday while I’m at work.

If you have a website you can even go crazier with your script. I have my script set up so after creating the new MP3 list it will automatically upload the list to my website using the command line FTP command. I always have an updated MP3 list on my website and never have to do a thing to create it and get it on the web.

Oidua and Guidua can both be downloaded from the Oidua Homepage.
